Here's a Quick and Easy Guide to Relaxation with a European Cruise Vacation

Aside from a great tan, there are other benefits to a European cruise vacation. However, you can only enjoy these if you know how to spend your vacation wisely. Don't waste all that planning by being a sitting duck during your own cruise. Follow these steps and you'll be in for the grandest European cruise vacation of your life:

1. Smile and befriend new people. Unless you can charter a boat for your own use, you will have other people for companions during your cruise. Whether you are with your own family or friends, or traveling alone, it is a good idea to try and be friendly to other people on board. Smile and at least try to get the names of the people you are traveling with. This is an even better idea if you're alone -- you'll get an instant set of friends.

2. Brush up on European history and trivia. This does not mean burying your nose in books during lulls in your trip. Relax and chitchat with your fellow passengers while cruising along Europe's greatest waterways and brush up on your history after docking. Visit museums, cathedrals, libraries, and other landmarks. These are usually very historic or come with interesting bits of trivia. You'll appreciate a place or a landmark more if you know what it stands for among the people of Europe.

3. Savor authentic European cuisine. If there's one thing you absolutely shouldn't miss during your European vacation, it is sampling the cuisine of each place you visit. Sure, you've eaten unpronounceable delicacies from European restaurants back home but there's nothing more satisfying than tasting these meals in their homelands. That mozzarella you bought from an Italian deli back home is different from the freshly smoked one you can get in Sicily.

4. Take pictures and blog about the places you visit as souvenirs. If you brought your laptop with you, why not blog about that foamy cappuccino while you're sipping it al fresco in an Italian cafe? Take a picture of your cup and upload it. You can update your friends back home while creating lasting memories of your trip. Although digital cameras are quite handy, be sure to have some backup memory sticks, batteries, and even a film camera.

5. Participate in activities planned by the cruise's crew. As much fun as it is to stroll around the cities on your own, set a time to participate in the activities provided by your tour guide. This is a great way to bond with your fellow cruise passengers and share interesting experiences. They might have visited a place you haven't gotten to yet.
